    TU-ID: University Professor (all genders) for the specialist field of Parallel Computing TU Wien is Austria's largest institution of research and higher education in the fields of technology and natural sciences. With over 26,000 students and more than 4000 scientists, research, teaching, and learning dedicated to the advancement of science and technology have been conducted here for more than 200 years, guided by the motto "Technology for People". At the Institute of Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Informatics at TU Wien, the position of a University Professor (all genders) for the specialist field of "Parallel Computing" with permanent (full-time) contractual employment is expected to be filled as of October 1st, 2026. This professorship position is regulated by 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG), and has been allocated in TU Wien's development plan to the focal area Information & Communication Technology. The Faculty of Informatics, one of the eight faculties at the TU Wien, is among the top-ranked faculties of Informatics in Europe, with more than 80 professors at all career levels and a strong focus on research excellence. The main areas of research include Computer Engineering, Logic and Computation, Visual Computing & Human-Centered Technology, as well as Information Systems Engineering. The open position forms the core of an independent research group for "Parallel Computing" within the Institute of Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Informatics, with the opportunity to also contribute to our well-established collaboration with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Applications such as Machine Learning are driving up computational demand. Hence, computing systems built from interconnected multi- and many-core processors with a significant number of independent - possibly heterogeneous - cores need to be dealt with effectively and efficiently. Parallel computing, including algorithms and data structures, compilers, operating and runtime systems, software, programming methods, applications, and architectural support, will continue to be of vital importance to all areas of computer science and industry for the foreseeable future. In line with the faculty's research focus on Computer Engineering, the professorship will emphasize performance- and hardware-oriented, reliable programming of parallel systems ranging from embedded multi- and many-core processors to large-scale heterogeneous systems (CPUs, GPUs, Accelerators, etc.). The research areas of the successful candidate should cover some of the following research topics in the context of multi-/many-core systems and heterogeneous architectures: Algorithms, models, tools, and data structures for parallel computing, including AI-enabled parallel computing and parallel-computing-enabled AI Performance- and hardware-oriented programming and software engineering of parallel systems Compilers, runtime systems, operating systems, and middleware for parallel systems Applicants must have a strong expertise and research record in parallel computing covering the range from algorithms to systems. The professorship has tight links with Computer Engineering in the areas of computer architecture, computer networks, operating systems, reliability, dependability, real-time guarantees, as well as with Computer Science in general (algorithms and data structures, programming languages, software engineering). In addition, collaborations with the VSC (Vienna Scientific Cluster) and subsequently with the ASC (Austria Scientific Computing) are encouraged. Besides research, the duties of a Full Professor at the TU Wien include graduate and undergraduate teaching (in English and German) with special focus on representing the field of parallel programming in the Bachelor and Master study programs of TU Wien, as well as contributing to usual management and faculty service tasks.
