About The Role
The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for the strategic direction, management, and performance of the firm’s lending activities.
The CLO oversees the origination, underwriting, and portfolio management functions, ensuring sustainable growth, profitability, and adherence to risk management and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and grow the existing portfolio of borrower relationships, maintaining strong, long-term client partnerships;
Act as the primary escalation point for borrower matters, proactively resolving issues as they arise;
Chair the Credit Committee, leading the review, assessment, and approval of credit applications in line with lending policies and risk frameworks;
Chair the Pricing Committee, overseeing and approving loan and portfolio-level pricing decisions;
Lead and oversee the origination and underwriting functions, ensuring a robust pipeline of high-quality lending opportunities aligned with the fund’s risk appetite;
Represent the fund’s lending capabilities externally, building strong relationships with potential partners, industry bodies, and key stakeholders;
Lead business development and growth initiatives by identifying new markets, partnerships, and collaboration opportunities, and making strategic recommendations to support expansion;
Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, and market dynamics, using market intelligence and data-driven insights to identify opportunities, assess risks, and inform strategic decision-making;
Provide strategic recommendations on capital adequacy and balance sheet settings, with consideration for potential future APRA oversight in the non-bank (private credit) sector;
Monitor, analyse, and report on lending portfolio performance, identifying trends, risks, and growth opportunities, and establishing KPIs to measure and track the effectiveness of lending activities.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Minimum 15 years’ experience in
finance or financial services, including at least 5 years in senior property lending roles covering lending, portfolio management, and profitability;
Strong understanding of the
finance industry, market dynamics, competitive landscape, and credit management;
Proven business development and client relationship skills, with a customer-centric focus and ability to deliver excellent borrower service;
Strategic thinker capable of analysing market trends, identifying opportunities, and developing innovative strategies to drive growth and market expansion;
Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to engage and influence large audiences;
Ability to provide practical solutions and feedback to resolve problems and improve processes;
Strong knowledge of risk management, regulatory frameworks, and compliance requirements;
Skilled negotiator and influencer, able to build relationships and secure mutually beneficial agreements with clients, partners, and vendors;
Ability to leverage data and analytics to inform commercial decisions, including pricing, product positioning, marketing strategies, and resource allocation.
